About the role

Spiro-Gills Thermal Products Ltd is looking for an experienced Heat Exchanger Site Services Engineer to help develop and deliver our onsite heat exchanger service offering.

Working with existing and new customers across the UK, you will assess heat exchanger condition, plan site activities and carry out removal, installation, cleaning and repair work.

This is a practical, predominantly site-based position requiring regular UK travel and close collaboration with customers, contractors and our internal engineering and manufacturing teams.

Key responsibilities

Site surveys and assessments

  • Visit customer sites to inspect and assess existing heat exchangers.
  • Record equipment condition, dimensions, connections and site access requirements.
  • Identify lifting, crane or HIAB requirements.
  • Gather the information needed to plan repairs, refurbishment, removal or replacement work.
  • Help define the scope, resources and equipment required for each project.

Heat exchanger removal and installation

  • Support and carry out the safe removal and installation of new and refurbished heat exchangers.
  • Ensure equipment is correctly positioned, connected and integrated into the existing system.
  • Assist with testing and commissioning following installation.
  • Coordinate activities with customers, contractors and internal teams.

Onsite cleaning and repairs

  • Diagnose heat exchanger faults and performance issues.
  • Carry out in-situ cleaning to remove deposits and restore performance.
  • Complete repairs including tube plugging, tube replacement and weld repairs, where appropriate.
  • Identify when equipment requires more extensive workshop repair or refurbishment.

Documentation and reporting

  • Prepare clear reports covering inspection findings, equipment condition and completed work.
  • Document repairs, maintenance activities and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate records, including relevant measurements and site photographs.

Health and safety

  • Plan and complete work in accordance with company procedures and site-specific requirements.
  • Follow applicable health and safety regulations, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Promote safe working practices throughout every project.

Experience and skills

The successful candidate should have:

  • Practical experience servicing, maintaining or repairing industrial heat exchangers.
  • A strong understanding of heat exchanger operating principles, equipment types and associated components.
  • Experience with shell and tube heat exchangers and other industrial cooling equipment.
  • The ability to diagnose faults and determine practical repair solutions.
  • Experience conducting site surveys and assessing access, lifting and installation requirements.
  • Good mechanical and practical engineering skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce clear reports.
  • Confidence working independently and collaboratively at customer sites.
  • A strong commitment to safe working practices.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • The flexibility to travel throughout the UK and stay away from home when required.

Relevant mechanical engineering qualifications and current site-safety certifications would be advantageous.
