Spiro Gills are proud to be the only UK manufacturer of High Frequency Welded Finned tube. In addition to our three High Frequency welding lines we have two McElroy applied finning machines. We are able to produce finned tube bundles completely in-house unlike many of our competitors.

Spiro-Gills Thermal Products Ltd is the UK's premier manufacturer of Finned Tubes for air-cooled heat exchangers. Because good quality cooling water is either too costly or unavailable, such exchangers are relied upon heavily by most process and power generation plants throughout the world.

The heart of the air-cooled heat exchanger is the extended surface tube - the section where heat is transferred. This surface is composed of helical high finned tubes, which need to be replaced from time to time due to corrosion, fouling or damage - either to the fins or to the base material.

Finned tubes are supplied in applied L fin tube, LL fin tube, G fin tube, or Knurled L fin tube. All of which are helical wound applied fin tube form. We can supply replacement finned tubes to suit your planned shutdowns or for emergency use.

Welded Finned Tube

Manufactured for high temperature applications such as boiler and economisers. 

Applied Finned Tube

Applied fin usually consists of a steel or stainless steel tube that is wrapped in a non-ferrous fin material. In most cases this is aluminium but can also be copper or other alloys.


High Frequency Thermatool Machines

We employ three Thermatool lines with various configurations for pipe and fin dimensions and designs.


McElroy Applied Finning Machines

We have two McElroy applied finning machines. We are able to manufacture for supply in addition to our demand for finned tube bundles.

We have vast expertise and over 50 years experience in the field of Helical High-Frequency Welded Tube finning and over 70 years experience in the manufacture of finned tubes. We originally produced finned tubes as Spiro-Gills Ltd in 1945 and have manufactured High-Frequency Welded Finned Tubes since 1964 when the process was introduced. Our equipment now operates in over 100 countries worldwide.

Welded finned tubes are critical in high temperature applications such as boilers and economisers. The tube and fins are both manufacturer from steel and can withstand high temperatures for extended periods of time. Our process welds the tube and the fin together using a continuous arc. This in turn creates a single weld bead throughout the entire tube. We can produce welded fin tube from steel or stainless steel and in a wide range of dimensions and fin sizes with serrated and non-serrated fins.

Applied finned tube provides excellent thermal conductivity for use in air cooled heat exchangers. In most cases the tube is made from steel or stainless steel and the fins are manufactured from aluminium or copper. The non-ferrous material is more malleable and is then wrapped or applied onto the tube at speed and with pressure. We are able to produce applied fin tube with various fin designs and materials to help meet your demands.
