Bespoke Air Cooled Heat Exchangers Designed Around Your Application

Air cooled heat exchangers are used where reliable cooling is required without relying on large volumes of cooling water.

In demanding industrial applications, the correct design has to account for far more than the basic cooling duty. Ambient temperature, operating conditions, materials, footprint, airflow, noise, access and maintainability all influence how the finished unit should be engineered.

Spiro-Gills designs and manufactures bespoke air cooled heat exchangers for customers operating in process cooling, power generation, oil and gas, chemical works, fertiliser and gas production, and wider industrial manufacturing sectors.

Supplying Heat Transfer Equipment Worldwide Since 1946

Spiro-Gills has been supplying heat transfer equipment to industry since 1946. That long-standing experience supports the design and manufacture of air cooled heat exchangers and finned tube for customers around the world.

The company has supplied bespoke ACHE and finned tube to more than 100 countries, supporting applications where dependable cooling performance and robust construction are essential.

This heritage matters because real-world cooling duties are rarely simple. Industrial sites often need equipment that is built around the application rather than selected from a standard catalogue.

Designed Around the Duty

Every air cooled heat exchanger project needs careful technical consideration. Key design factors may include:

  • Required thermal duty
  • Worst-case ambient temperature
  • Fluid characteristics
  • Tube, fin and material selection
  • Forced draft or induced draft configuration
  • Fan and airflow requirements
  • Noise requirements
  • Header design
  • Mechanical structure
  • Site footprint and mounting arrangement
  • Maintenance access
  • Project documentation and inspection requirements

Spiro-Gills designs each unit to perform based on the required outlet temperature and the operating environment. The aim is to provide a practical, efficient and maintainable cooling solution that suits the customer's process and site conditions.

Forced Draft and Induced Draft Options

Spiro-Gills can support both forced draft and induced draft air cooled heat exchanger designs.

Forced draft coolers push air through the tube bundle from below and can offer effective cooling efficiency at a reduced cost compared with induced draft designs.

Induced draft coolers pull air through the tube bundle and can provide more even cooling across the bundle, while offering greater protection for the finned tube from the elements.

The right option depends on the process, environment, operating priorities and project specification.

Engineering-Led Manufacturing

Air cooled heat exchanger performance depends on both thermal and mechanical design.

Spiro-Gills uses engineering tools and design experience to support thermal design, mechanical design of headers and steel structure, noise level predictions, specification sheets, general outline drawings, proposals and cost estimation.

This helps customers move from an initial cooling requirement to a practical manufactured solution that is aligned with the project duty and operating environment.
